String Quartet
for 2 violins, viola, and cello (2022).
Premiered by Converge Quartet in Britton Hall, Ann Arbor on March 14th, 2022.
The String Quartet was written for the Converge Quartet who premiered the work on March 14th, 2022.
The inspiration of this work was from observing light in the nature. Light can form images, can hint emotions, and transmit stories. It is also free, shifts seamlessly from color to color, blends, interacts, and contrasts with each other. In movement I, lights and shadows leak in violin’s emotional monologue and reveal a subtle spectrum, reflections, and deeper sentimentality. A contrasting, and exciting lightshow appears in movement II giving a jubilant and vibrant experience.
The first movement is to memorize my dear composition teacher Борис Семенович Гецелев (Boris Semenovich Gezelev) who passed away in 2021. The music is later revisited in my saxophone quartet Collapsing Dome.
