Spring Dawn
for symphonic orchestra (work in progress) 12 min.
3333 – 4231 – 3 perc. hp. keyboard – full strings.
I. Spring Dawn
II. Birds Singing
III. Thunderstorm (work in progress)
IV. Falling Flowers (work in progress)
The first two movements can be performed as an individual program.
The inspiration came from a famous Chinese classical poem—Spring Dawn by Meng Haoran. With minimal text, the four stanzas mention four moments in spring: the early coming morning, singing birds, drizzling sound during the night rain, and fallen flowers after rain.
Spring is the experience we all have as human. I like the inclusive way that Meng leads the readers to imagine their infinite picture of spring experience. It varies from culture to culture, and I think it is the beauty. Spring Dawn is my attempt to share the ideal spring of my imagination thru symphonic soundscape. I wish to welcome audience with different background to explore and enjoy.
